At the heart of the dynamic driving experience is the AMG-optimized 3.0-liter inline-six cylinder engine, specifically tailored for the GLE 53 HYBRID. Enhanced software and an added heat exchanger contribute to its impressive 443 hp output, marking a 14 hp increase. The hybrid system’s electric motor lends an electric boost, offering a swift response and eliminating the need for an electric auxiliary compressor.

The powertrain combines the AMG-enhanced engine with a 134 hp electric motor, a battery boasting a 31.2 kWh capacity, and the AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive, fully variable for optimal performance. The hybrid unit’s high power density is attained through the use of permanently excited internal rotor synchronous technology. The electric motor’s 354 lb-ft of torque is readily available, providing exceptional agility, even from a standstill.

The system’s peak combined output reaches a staggering 536 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque, delivering thrilling driving performance. The vehicle can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in a mere 4.6 seconds, with a top speed electronically capped at 155 mph. Under specific conditions, it can also be driven entirely on electric power at speeds up to 87 mph. Charging is made efficient with an 11 kW AC and 60 kW DC on-board charger, ensuring rapid charging times.

Exterior and Interior Specifics for the Hybrid Model
The Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 HYBRID showcases unique features throughout, with the front fascia designed to channel airflow to the additional heat exchanger. Hybrid-specific badges adorn the front fenders and tailgate, highlighting the vehicle’s plug-in hybrid nature. The AMG high-performance braking system includes large, internally ventilated brake discs, ensuring reliable stopping power.

Inside, the MBUX infotainment system is outfitted with hybrid-specific displays and functions, including a charging menu and various information displays that provide insight into the vehicle’s charging status, battery temperature, and electric range.

Revolutionized Suspension
The AMG RIDE CONTROL+ air suspension, combined with adaptive damping, has been tailor-made for the GLE 53 HYBRID, incorporating new hardware and software for a perfect balance between a smooth electric driving experience and AMG’s signature sporty performance. This includes new passive stabilizers and dampers, as well as completely reprogrammed software, ensuring a balanced, dynamic, and confident drive.

AMG DYNAMIC SELECT Drive Programs
The AMG DYNAMIC SELECT drive programs have been precisely adjusted for the hybrid powertrain, affecting various vehicle parameters such as drive and transmission response, steering characteristics, chassis damping, and sound. The GLE 53 HYBRID defaults to a silent start in “Electric” mode, ready to drive when the electric motor is engaged.

Apart from standard drive programs, the vehicle also features two hybrid-specific modes. “Electric” allows for all-electric driving up to 87 mph, while “Battery Hold” maintains the battery’s state of charge, optimizing the use of the electric motor and recuperation to ensure energy efficiency. The Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System ensures that the performance hybrid’s presence is known, even when operating in all-electric mode, emitting a specially crafted AMG sound to the exterior and interior for both safety and acoustic feedback.
